Social media, like it or not...

Instagram, Facebook like them or not - the power of social media can at times be a great asset...

We had a ‘like’ from a French cycling holiday company on one of our posts, so I looked them up.

“Mai non!” I declared to Roddy, “We have competition!”

“Competition is good.” He said.

I decided to approach the cycle tour company by private message suggesting that perhaps we could somehow work together combining cycle tours incorporating both our B&B accommodations...

I had a friendly and positive message back from a lovely guy called Adrian who seemed equally keen to get together for a chat. The outcome of continued 'cycle tour chat' messaging between Roddy and Adrian led to a visit from Adrian - incorporating a bike ride of course - for further discussions, and we have some exciting news...

Between Charente Cycling and Chez les Bons we’ll be able to offer cycle tours between the peace and tranquility of rural Charente and stunning coastline of Charente Maritime via a breathtaking route through surrounding vineyards of the Cognac region. Take a look at Chez les Bon’s website.

Last years set back disheartened us to say the least. After waiting just over a year for our builder to fix the leaking roof that Roddy finally sorted, he suddenly appeared from nowhere stating that he noticed the work had been done and under french law he was entitled to cash our devi deposit chq anyway... I could not stop the cheque as unlike the UK where cheques are only valid for 6 months, french law is 1 year and 8 days (weird huh?!) So an expensive 800 euro lesson was learnt...

So many things went wrong that summer, plus the added pre-occupation with 'Piglet' and trying to find a home for her.

It actually crossed our minds to finally give up and sell up - our dreams shattered...

This trip however, has been really positive and very productive. Our new french plumber and electrician have been reliable, on time and have completed the work they’d promised. We have also found a new builder and struck a deal with our old builder. The 800 euros will go towards extending the terrace after an extremely grovelling email in poor french was sent by me. Our new builder however, is booked to finish the gîte before we arrive in Summer (all fingers crossed) things are on the up!! - then there will be loads of painting to do... painting holiday anyone?

Oh, by the way, for those who are interested... ‘Piglet’ is now Pixie, she came back to the UK with us and now has a forever home with a lovely family in Dorset.
